First United Methodist Church – The Church Journey
February 18, 2021 – http://mynetzone.com/
I had the privilege to visit First United Methodist Church of Alcoa established in 1920. Alcoa is an amazing city it is a jewel in East Tennessee. In 2020 Alcoa First UMC recently met a special milestone its 100th anniversary. What makes the location of this church so special is Springbrook Park that is adjacent to the church grounds. The peaceful park surrounded by old trees and a small stream navigating around the uncluttered pathways leading through this majestic landscape provides a wonderful view.
MY JOURNEY:
I was visiting Springbrook Park which provided an opportunity to get some excise walking around the majestic paths. I stopped to take comfort on one of the park benches, warm from the steady sun piercing through the surrounding trees. This provided the opportunity to slow down and absorb the beauty of the park. Looking at the trees many appeared to be very old as the tree trunks had a very large circumference. The trees reached so high in the sky providing shade from the sun, which brings a serene reverence that is the park.
Looking to the East on the outer boundaries of the park my view provided a visual of the First United Methodist Church. As I was sitting taking in the views of the church, and the peaceful park, it reminded me that our God is an awesome God. The park provided a refuge for nature as the birds were singing and the squirrels played weaving their bushy tails in the air. I continued to absorb the beauty as the park was now my sanctuary of my soul allowing me time to reflect. The park told the story of the seasons of the past, but in this moment time stood still. And that warmed my soul and put a smile on my face.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
God created the Earth out of his great love and giving all people a special place in it. The heavens and the earth are here. We are here. God created all that we see and experience. The book of Genesis begins, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1 NIV) Here we begin the most exciting and fulfilling journey imaginable. Although God created everything, his greatest joy comes from our genuine worship and trust in Him. Everything belongs to God the glorious eternal King. Let us worship him and welcome His glorious reign.
