I had the privilege to visit Moores Gap United Methodist Church, which is a picturesque white wooden church located against a hilly wooded backdrop. I was unable to find much history or a website related to this church. Checking newspaper archives I found funeral notices going back to 1943.

MY JOURNEY:

I have passed this church many times on my travels and I am always entertained by the changing messages added to the church sign. Recently the weekly message has been left blank causing me to wonder if something changed with this small quaint wooden church.

The drive to the church is off a winding country road that parallels Interstate 75. Along the drive there is a small stream peacefully flowing on the opposite side of the road.  The church has a large wooded hill behind the building providing a peaceful backdrop, which in October is accented with colorful fall foliage.  The time I spent walking around taking pictures was serenaded with birds singing in the trees behind the church. I finished my visit in tranquil peaceful prayer. Soon after leaving I connected onto the busy highway filled with noisy cars racing in a fast-paced chaos of people traveling from point A to Point B in a schedule driven ritual called life.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I have enjoyed capturing photos of old country churches as I drive along back country roads. I always contemplate about the stories that each church holds.  Moores Gap Church is the type of church you think of when visualizing a country church.

As I am nearing the end of my journey to visit 52 churches, I hope that I have inspired you to take notice to the wonderful churches that grace your current location on this Earth.  No matter where your located we all share one thing in common. We all share the same gift that is available to us through the grace of God when Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Every minute, every second that we live on this earth is full of tough choices as direct consequence of sin, be it ours or someone else’s. When we are released from the burden of sin, suddenly we see those choices in a different light. We see those choices through God’s perspective and when that happens, surely our lives won’t be the same anymore.

FELLOWSHIP:

With the National emergency for the COVID-19 virus many churches have a reduced schedule. At the time of my visit the church was closed, so I spent time outside the church in meditation and prayer.
